Day 1 Airport /Hunas Falls: About 4.5 Hour Drive Hunas Falls Hotel
Having arrived in Sri Lanka you will be greeted by both our Red Hut representative and your chauffeur guide at the airport itself. Take a leisurely drive, into the forests of Hunas Falls. En route visit the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, which houses abandoned and wounded elephants. Started back in 1975. We recommend timing your visit for when the elephants are being fed or as they all march to the river close by to be bathed. After lunch, continue the picturesque drive to Hunas Falls. Spend the evening relaxing before an exciting day tomorrow
Day 2 Hunas Falls: About half a day trek.
Rise early and venture into the depths of the forest following Simpson"s trail, a former planter of this region. This half a day’s trek takes you through tea estates, open pastures, to Simpson"s very forest, a triangular-shaped forest patch, which looks like a gallery forest. Throughout your walk look out for a number of birds such as the flower pecker, sunbirds and fly catchers.
Day 3 Hunas Falls/ Kandy/Hunas Falls: About 2 Hours Drive.
Today you will be taking approximately a short drive to the relaxing hill station of Kandy, surrounded by virgin forests broken by the great Mahaweli River. Kandy is also well known as the centre of Buddhism and the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom. Take a city tour of Kandy including the market place ,and the Temple of the Tooth Relic, which houses Sri Lanka’s most sacred relic, a tooth of the Lord Buddha. The Temple itself dates from the 16th century and is entered via 2 doors showing mythical beasts. In the late evening view a dance performance featuring traditional dances from the different regions of Sri Lanka. Next, take a guided stroll through the lush Royal Botanical Gardens of Peredeniya for an introduction to tropical flora before returning to the hotel.
Day 4 Hunas – Nuwara Eliya : About 3 Hours Drive.
Take a scenic three hours drive to Nuwara Eliya, which is Sri Lanka"s tea growing region. During the drive, relish the endless views of tea carpeted valleys, processing factories belching out fragrant aromas and the bright flash of female "tea pluckers" in their pimento, fuchsia and cerise saris picking their way through the plantations. Enroute visit a tea factory where the process of tea producing and grading will be explained. You will also be able to taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory. Once in Nuwara Eliya you will realize that the abundant rainfall combined with sunshine, cold nights and misty mornings offers the perfect climate for producing high grown teas. With brick and stone-built houses, rose gardens and perfect lawns Nuwara Eliya in many ways resembles a "small English village". Enjoy a guided stroll pass the 18-hole golf course, the colonial member’s only Hill Club and English styled country homes.
Day 5 Nuwara Eliya/Horton Plains/ Nuwara Eliya: About 3 Hours Drive.
For a complete experience of Sri Lanka’s panoramic mountains, travel just outside the town of Nuwara Eliya to the National Park of Horton Plains. The Horton Plains were formerly the hunting grounds of the British Raj. They form an undulating plateau over 2,000 meters high and are a beautiful area of grasslands, interspersed with patches of forest. The area provides excellent opportunities for walking with panoramic views over the spectacular escarpment, known as World"s End, which drops a sheer 1,219 meters. Take a slow and steady hike which also features Baker’s waterfall. Return to the town of Nuwara Eliya and spend the day as you like.
Day 6 Nuwara Eliya/ Colombo: About 4.5 Hours Drive.
Relish the drive past the tea carpeted mountains, along the meandering rivers, pass the rice paddy fields to the coast of Colombo, staying at the outskirts in town of Mount Lavinia.
